Newcastle United are eyeing Jonathan David ahead of the January transfer window but Arsenal are also interested in the Lille hitman.
The Magpies were in the market for a striker over the summer and ended up pulling off a huge deal.
Alexander Isak arrived from Real Sociedad but he has only played three times due to a frustrating injury blow suffered in September.
Callum Wilson continues to find the net but with Chris Wood’s future already unclear, Newcastle could target another striker in January.

Newcastle United are eyeing Jonathan David
The new name in the mix is Lille striker Jonathan David.
The Chronicle claim that Newcastle have been scouting David in action for Lille this season.
However, the report adds that Arsenal are also interested in signing David with the Gunners watching him closely.
Arsenal’s interest will be of note because Edu and co wanted to sign him last January.
Football London reported in January that Edu had held talks with David’s agent Nick Mavromaras over a potential move to Arsenal.
No move materialised and many will have expected Arsenal’s interest to end after they snapped up Gabriel Jesus.
The Gunners are still interested though and could emerge as a real rival to Newcastle in the race for his signature.
David, 22, has been in ridiculous form this season, bagging nine goals and three assists in 13 Ligue 1 games for Lille.
Compared to Luis Suarez, David is capable of playing up front or behind a striker and is now expected to be one of Canada’s leading lights at the World Cup in Qatar.
David may well pick up more interest there and he has already been called a ‘phenomenon’ by former coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck.
Newcastle will be paying close attention to David during the World Cup and may believe that he and Isak can find goals together for years to come.
