Newcastle United have made contact over a deal for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin – but Arsenal area also thought to have asked about him.

That’s according to The Sunday Mirror (17/04, p77), who claim that Calvert-Lewin is a man in demand this summer.

It’s claimed that both Newcastle and Arsenal have now made enquiries into a possible deal for Calvert-Lewin.

That’s regardless of Everton’s Premier League fate, with relegation not entirely ruled out just yet.

Everton’s worrying financial situation means that selling Calvert-Lewin may be a necessity in order to raise funds.

Calvert-Lewin may have endured a very disappointing season but there is still huge interest in his signature.

The 25-year-old scored three in three to start the season but then picked up a major injury.

Returning in January, Calvert-Lewin hasn’t scored yet and looks a shadow of his former self.

The Telegraph have reported that Arsenal’s interest has cooled a little, but maybe they still want to find out how much he would cost.

Mikel Arteta is thought to be a big fan of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Arsenal do need a couple of strikers this summer.

Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah appear to be leaving, so Arsenal could be tempted back to Calvert-Lewin – if he’s cheap enough.

As for Newcastle, they paid up for one target man in January by signing Chris Wood from Burnley.

Adding Calvert-Lewin too would give them a couple of big, physical centre forwards who could mesh well with Callum Wilson when he returns.

Whether that is Eddie Howe’s plan remains to be seen, but Newcastle making contact shows their interest in a big summer move.

We would suggest that Newcastle is slightly more likely than Arsenal right now, with the Gunners simply exploring their options in pursuit of a striker.
