Newcastle United want Djibril Sow and seem ready to battle Arsenal in the race to sign the Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder in 2023.

The Magpies have not only added the star power of Bruno Guimaraes to their midfield, but have also seen Eddie Howe improve midfielders he inherited.

Joelinton has become a quality midfielder whilst Sean Longstaff and Joe Willock look so much better than they did under Steve Bruce.

Newcastle continue to be linked with midfielders though, either with the idea of allowing Bruno to go further forward or bring in a playmaker like James Maddison.

Newcastle United want Djibril Sow

The latest name in the mix for Newcastle is Eintracht Frankfurt star Djibril Sow.

Bild report that Newcastle have joined Arsenal and Nottingham Forest in the race to sign Sow.

Frankfurt are reluctant to sell Sow in January though, so any interested clubs will have to wait until 2023.

The problem for Frankfurt then is that Sow will have just one year left on his contract and his value in the market will be dropping.

Newcastle and Arsenal are allegedly ‘putting out feelers’ for Sow having been impressed with him for club and country.

Sow, 25, has played a key role for Frankfurt this season and has started all three of Switzerland’s games at the World Cup in Qatar.

Newcastle currently have Fabian Schar in their ranks and the defender is out in Qatar with Sow right now and the Magpies may hope that he can tempt Sow into joining him on Tyneside.

Sow has been described as a ‘fast, box-to-box player’ by former Frankfurt boss Adi Hutter and he seems ready to take the next step in his career.

That doesn’t really fit the idea of bringing in a holder or a playmaker, but Sow has featured as a defensive midfielder at times.

What’s interesting is that Roma Giallorossa claim that Newcastle also fancy signing Sow’s Frankfurt teammate Evan Ndicka, a left-sided defender.

Newcastle will know that both players have contracts that are running down and may not look to strike a cut-price double deal for the duo in 2023.
