Newcastle United had eyed up Andy Scott for a role at the club, but he is now taking on a new position at Championship side Nottingham Forest.
The Daily Mail reported in December that Newcastle were casting their net far and wide for off-field help.
With a director of football wanted but proving elusive, Newcastle decided to go for a short-term addition to help them in January.
That role ended up going to Nick Hammond, who has already left Newcastle after short-term consultancy period.
That report indicated that Scott was also a candidate, but he ended up missing out on a move to Newcastle.
Scott, 49, left his role as Swansea City’s head of recruitment back in December in a shock decision.
The former Brentford, Rotherham United and Aldershot Town boss has been scouting for the last few years, working with Brentford, Watford and Swansea.
If Newcastle still had their eyes on Scott for a recruitment role, then they appear to have missed their chance.
The Nottingham Post report that Scott has become Nottingham Forest’s new head of scouting and actually started his role earlier this month.
Scott worked with Forest boss Steve Cooper at Swansea and the pair now reunite at the City Ground.

That’s a great coup for Forest, who have been making some smart moves in recent times.
From Dane Murphy coming in last summer to the appointment of Cooper and now landing Scott, Forest are moving in the right direction.
Newcastle could even give Scott a major scouting mission – inadvertently though.
The Magpies have been credited with an interest in Forest star Brennan Johnson.
If Newcastle do sign Johnson, Scott would have to go and find a replacement – and that won’t be easy given Johnson’s quality.
