Newcastle United and Atlanta United fans think Miguel Almiron’s move to St. James’ Park may just have edged closer, following the American side’s signing of Pity Martinez.

Martinez looks to be a natural replacement for Almiron, should the Paraguayan depart, amid strong interest from Newcastle.

The Chronicle have explained how Newcastle have been pushing to sign Almiron for the whole of January and are still interested now.

And Newcastle and Atlanta fans think that the MLS team may just be preparing for Almiron’s departure now.

Rafael Benitez is thought to have made Almiron his top target for this month a long time ago, with the Spaniard wanting to add more creativity at St. James’ Park.

Almiron has been one of the stand out players in MLS in recent years, and could add a spark to Newcastle’s attacking play.

The Magpies have been unable to agree a fee for the Paraguayan so far though, and time is running out.

Newcastle have just a week remaining in the transfer window to secure the signing of the playmaker, meaning they will now have to act quickly if they are to get a deal done.
