Newcastle United are now closing in on Harvey Barnes after accelerating talks for the Leicester City winger.

Harvey Barnes could swap Leicester City for Newcastle United with talks heading in the right direction.

That is according to a report from The Times, who claim that Newcastle are closing in on signing Barnes.

It’s stated that the deal has now ‘moved a significant step closer’ after fresh talks between Newcastle and Leicester.

The move has been ramped up this week and it’s now claimed that a deal worth £35million could be in place soon.

Barnes is believed to be Eddie Howe’s top target after snapping up midfielder Sandro Tonali earlier this month.

Barnes is keen on the move after Leicester’s relegation and it looks like Newcastle will get their man.

Newcastle United set to add another threat in Harvey Barnes

The report claims that Newcastle actually wanted to sign Barnes last summer but were quoted £50million.

The Foxes have now gone down and Newcastle are benefiting, securing a £15million reduction.

This will feel like a bargain for Newcastle after Barnes racked up 13 goals in 34 Premier League games last season.

Barnes is still only 25 too and should give Newcastle another goal threat for years to come.

Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson were outstanding in the second half of last season; no matter which striker Eddie Howe picked, they tended to score.

Miguel Almiron found his best form in a Newcastle shirt under Howe in the first half of last term whilst Allan Saint-Maximin is still a menace on his day.

Add in Anthony Gordon, who will hopefully benefit from a pre-season at Newcastle and a positive Under-21 European Championship campaign, and Barnes should be part of a very dangerous set of attacking options.

Newcastle United could beat Manchester United to two signings

News of Newcastle ramping up their interest in Barnes comes just days after rumoured Manchester United interest.

The Daily Mail reported on Monday that Manchester United like Barnes and are somewhat lurking in the race for his signature.

Jadon Sancho has been linked away this summer and maybe his departure would free up a move for Barnes.

Newcastle have accelerated now though and should be in a great position to sign Barnes.

There could be a double-whammy yet though as Football Transfers claim that Monaco defender Axel Disasi has agreed personal terms with Newcastle.

Manchester United have wanted Disasi too but will allegedly only make a move if Harry Maguire leaves.

Newcastle may well have spent up their budget if Barnes joins Tonali, but Disasi could be the next priority if some fringe Magpies players move on.
