Newcastle United Under-23s have reached the Premier League Cup final thanks to a superb 3-0 win over Leeds United Under-23s at Nethermoor Park on Tuesday.

Both sides were evenly matched for much of the first half, though the Magpies had to withstand several attacks on their goal by Carlos Corberan’s charges as the game went on.

However, the Magpies held firm come the break and went on to take the lead on 50 minutes when Hugo Diaz fouled Callum Roberts in the box, Kelland Watts duly converting his penalty.

Newcastle then doubled their lead in the 54th minute as Cal Roberts took advantage of a mistake from Bryce Hosannah at the back, made his way into the box and slotted past Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

Four minutes from time, the prolific Elias Sorensen rifled a ferocious effort from the edge of the box after a quick attack from the right hand side to cap off the victory over a strong Whites outfit.

After the game, several of the stars from the semi-final win took to Twitter, and some Newcastle fans poured praise on them:

Newcastle have to wait until the quarter-final tie between Everton and Blackburn Rovers takes place, and the winner of that will face Swansea City for the right to face the Magpies in the final.
