The Magpies ace is expected to be out for the rest of the Premier League season.

Newcastle United have suffered a huge blow in the shape of a potentially season-ending injury to midfielder Sean Longstaff.
The 21-year-old academy graduate has burst onto the scene this season under Rafael Benitez, making nine Premier League appearances (Transfermarkt).
Longstaff initially wasn’t in his manager’s plans at the start of the campaign, but with certain players having been either injured, out of form or otherwise unavailable, it opened the door for him in the first team.
However, it was reported by the Shields Gazette on Wednesday that Longstaff has been to see a specialist amid fears he is facing an extended spell on the sidelines due to a knee injury, and on Thursday, the club confirmed the bad news.
“Newcastle United can confirm midfielder Sean Longstaff is likely to miss the remainder of the 2018-19 season with a knee ligament injury,” read a statement on the Magpies official website.
With the Tyneside outfit’s upturn in form coinciding with the youngster’s breakthrough, not to mention the heartbreak of seeing such a talented young player’s progress stunted by a long-term injury, it’s bad news all round for the club and its faithful.

Following the announcement, some Newcastle fans took to Twitter to bemoan the news and to wish Longstaff all the best in his recovery:
