Some Newcastle United fans have taken to Twitter to give their reaction to speculation that the Magpies want to sign Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid.
What’s the story?
Guillem Balague said on BBC Radio 5 Live last week that Newcastle are “really interested” in signing the former Tottenham Hotspur defender.
The BBC Sport journalist claimed that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) “have started negotiations” with the right-back’s representatives.

As you can see from the tweets below, Newcastle fans are excited at the prospect of potentially watching Trippier in action at St. James’ Park.
Well, some of them anyway.
Some Newcastle fans think that it is realistic that the Magpies could get the defender in January.
The 31-year-old remains at the top of his game and is a very good right-back.
However, in our view, it is going to be extremely tough for Newcastle to bring in the former Spurs star in the January transfer window.
Atletico are challenging for the La Liga title and are also playing in the Champions League.
Surely Trippier is not going to leave Atletico and join a team fighting for survival in the Premier League in the middle of the season.
If a transfer is to happen to Eddie Howe’s side, then it is more likely to happen in the summer of 2022.
