French sit Media Foot claim that Newcastle have positioned themselves in the race to sign Rennes wonderkid Desire Doue, a 17-year-old talent that has already played 16 times for Rennes – and likened to Eduardo Camavinga.
Camavinga came through the Rennes ranks and has since joined Real Madrid. Ousmane Dembele is another example of Rennes producing wonderkid talent. Now, the latest off the conveyor belt is Doue, who is shining in central midfield.
Still 17, Doue has played 16 times at senior level for Rennes – and scored three goals for his side. His form has seen him earn four France U19 caps, and comparisons with Camavinga. The man he has, to an extent, replaced at Rennes.
The report states that having signed the likes of Sven Botman and Bruno Guimaraes from Ligue 1, Toon scouts are using the French top tier as a scouting pool. The latest player they want to sign is Doue, though his price tag is unclear.

Rennes are in a good position when it comes to his fee, as well. They have a contract with Doue until June 2025. So, it might be that this summer or next, he is sold – but Rennes can charge what they want for the exciting, young star.
Newcastle position themselves in race to sign Doue, the next Camavinga
If Doue can go on to be anything like Camavinga, then we are talking about a serious talent. Still just 20, Camavinga has won six caps – played for Rennes 88 times and now Madrid on 61 occasions. Doue is following in his footsteps.
There is no reason, at the moment, why Doue can not go on and continue to fill the void Camavinga has left at Rennes. An exciting midfielder, comfortable on the ball and clearly, more than capable of finding the back of the net.
