The Telegraph claim Newcastle have been ‘led to believe’ that transfer targets James Maddison and Ruben Neves would prefer other moves when they become available – with Liverpool and Manchester United also keen on Neves.
Newcastle are interested in signing Neves and Maddison – with the latter being strongly linked with a move from Leicester in recent windows. Neves has entered the final 18 months of his contract, and his future is up in the air.
Maddison, who is rated at £60million, has been in electric form for Leicester over the past 18 months. The England World Cup star, though, has been injured since the return of football after the World Cup. Neves is Wolves’ captain.
So, both players are targets for Newcastle both this month – and in the summer. However, the report claims that both players would prefer moves to other clubs when they become available. Neves will be kept until the summer.

Newcastle led to believe Maddison and Neves would prefer other moves
It is an interesting one. Right now, Newcastle sit third in the Premier League table. Champions League qualification looks more than likely. So, could they really do better than Newcastle? Arsenal or Manchester City are above them.
But Manchester City are well stocked in midfield in regards to Neves. Arsenal could do with Neves, but Liverpool and Manchester United are the clubs said to be interested. Arsenal have been linked with a move for Maddison.
Maddison and Neves might be better off waiting until the summer to see if the Toon do qualify for the Champions League. Come the summer, the Toon might seem much more attractive. But Newcastle will have to wait and see.
Newcastle really need a player like Neves, this month. Jonjo Shelvey remains sidelined and Bruno Guimaraes could be out for a few weeks with an ankle issue. A no.10 is also missing at Newcastle, with the Toon strongly linked.
