Newcastle United are reportedly weighing up the option to join the race to sign Jude Bellingham in the summer, with Liverpool currently the frontrunners for the Borussia Dortmund superstar.

According to Sport Bild via Sport Witness, the Toon are considering joining the likes of Liverpool, Real Madrid and PSG in what is likely to be one of the biggest transfer battles of the upcoming summer transfer window, with Bellingham expected to leave Germany no matter what.

With a reported asking price of €150m (£130m), Bellingham could easily become both the most expensive English player of all time as well as the biggest Premier League transfer ever, breaking Chelsea’s recent £107m acquisition of Enzo Fernandez from Benfica.

A star for Dortmund in both the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League, the 19-year-old midfielder is regarded by many as one of the best in the world and a player who could go down as one of the greatest players England will ever produce. And for Newcastle, it makes sense why the Toon could now look to sign Bellingham.

Indeed, the Magpies are yet to go crazy with their newfound PIF wealth in the market. However, with Eddie Howe’s side in the driving seat for a top-four finish, a ticket to the Champions League could open every possible door in the summer in regards to transfers, including Bellingham.

However, given just how much interest there is in Bellingham, particularly from Liverpool, Newcastle could struggle to match with the Anfield side based on their reputation and how extensively the Reds have been chasing the England international over the past 12 months.

Newcastle’s progression under Howe and PIF has been extraordinary, with the Magpies shooting their way up the Premier League standings with smart football and even better signings and moves off the pitch, with the Toon yet to flaunt their new wealth in an obnoxious manner.

However, signing Bellingham could change all of that in what would be one of the most surprising transfers in the league’s history, with the England international one of the most in-demand players in Europe and someone who could break numerous transfer records this summer.
