Newcastle are reportedly keen to sign Everton ace Anthony Gordon before Tuesday’s 11pm deadline but are unwilling to meet Everton’s £60million price tag – and Simon Jordan has praised their approach on TalkSPORT (26/01, 11:55AM).

Gordon, 21, has been regularly linked with a move away from Everton. In the summer, Chelsea were looking to bring him to Stamford Bridge with a £60m fee touted. He remained at Everton. Now, Newcastle are on pole to sign Gordon.

Daily Mail reporter Craig Hope has told Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre (26/01, 9:15AM) that Everton still want a fee as high as £60m for Gordon. A player that has only scored seven goals in 78 senior games for Everton, providing eight assists.

But he reports that a deal will only happen if Newcastle can reduce that fee to £40m. When talking about Newcastle’s stance, Jordan praised the Toon for their approach – applauding them for not being tempted to pay over the odds.

“Good on Newcastle. Everton need the money. Newcastle are spending money, but they could go harder and higher. But they are going to pay what people are worth and it is nice to see,” Jordan told TalkSPORT on Wednesday morning.

Gordon would be a good signing for The Toon. Eddie Howe starts Joelinton and Miguel Almiron out wide when all are fit. Allan Saint-Maximin has found himself fall down the pecking order. Ryan Fraser and Jacob Murphy are also options.

Gordon would throw himself into the mix. While he may struggle to start straight away, he might be first reserve for the Toon. Saint-Maximin is a target for Milan and could go if a fee of £26m is on the table, as per Sky Italy’s Di Marzio.
