PSG have reportedly made French youngster Manu Kone their midfield priority for the summer transfer window, with Newcastle United also interested in signing the Borussia Monchengladbach prospect.

According to L’Equipe, the reigning Ligue 1 champions are targeting a move for the 21-year-old talent, who this season has seen his stock increase in a big way after establishing himself as a starter for Gladbach and a potential international for Didier Deschamps’ France squad.

With an asking price of €35m (£31m), Kone won’t come cheap for PSG this summer, with the French club already facing competition in the race to sign the midfielder from Newcastle, who the Daily Mail report is also a key target for Eddie Howe this year in the transfer market.

The Magpies are set for a huge summer window having spent little in January, and with a top-four Premier League finish still on the cards for Newcastle, Kone could be tempted with a move to England if the northeast side does the impossible and qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

However, given the grip PSG have on the French market, Kone could be very eager to return to his home country in the summer, with the potential Ligue 1 champions and playing alongside the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Lionel Messi a huge pull for any player.

Indeed, PSG are seemingly the favourites for Kone this summer, yet with Newcastle having the cash to compete with any club, the Toon could surprise a few by beating Christophe Galtier’s side to the 21-year-old, who Media Foot recently lauded as a ‘diamond’.

Newcastle’s squad planning under PIF has been second-to-none in Europe, with Howe and his transfer team doing an excellent job in turning a mid-table Premier League side into one that could soon finish in a top-four spot, which is why missing out on Kone will feel like such a blow.

Whilst it would be logical for the midfielder to move to PSG, Newcastle could be a perfect club for Kone given his age and exciting potential, with Howe an ideal manager to get the best out of the French wonderkid, who is more than ready to flourish in the Premier League.
