Houssem Aouar is set to leave Lyon this summer though a Premier League move is reportedly unlikely for the French midfielder despite interest from Newcastle United.
According to Foot Mercato, the four leading clubs to sign the France international are AS Roma, Eintracht Frankfurt, Napoli and Real Betis, with a move to England now seemingly off the cards as things stand for Aouar, who could be ready to leave Lyon for free.
The midfielder’s contract expires at the end of this season, and with Aouar one of the most talented playmakers in Ligue 1, it is no surprise why a quartet of top European clubs are leading the charge to sign the 24-year-old, who is ready for a starring role at a major side.
However, the lack of movement over a Premier League move for Aouar could be a cause of concern for the likes of Newcastle, who according to CalcioMercatoWeb is on Eddie Howe’s radar as the English manager looks to add to his Magpies squad.
Indeed, quality depth throughout the team is the next thing Howe and PIF will be looking to bring in this summer as Newcastle plot a huge window of spending, Yet for Aouar, the midfielder could now be off the table given the clubs currently interested in the Lyon superstar.
However, that’s not to say a move to England and Newcastle can’t happen. And with Aouar set to leave Lyon, the Magpies could soon reignite their interest in the French superstar if Howe decides that the midfielder would be a good addition for the St. James Park side.
Aouar should wait for Premier League call when he leaves Lyon
Aouar has been linked with a move to the Premier League for his entire career, and with the midfielder now leaving Lyon, a big transfer and payday is coming for the Frenchman, who could benefit from waiting for an English side to give him the call in the summer, such as Newcastle.
As we know, Newcastle’s aim this summer is to build the squad out with quality depth options, and Aouar will provide just that given how much the experience the 24-year-old has at a top level, with Howe also an ideal coach for the Lyon maestro.
