Real Madrid have reportedly made Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes their main alternative if they fail to sign Jude Bellingham this summer.

According to Defensa Central, Los Blancos are keen to sign a long-term central midfielder with Borussia Dortmund superstar Bellingham their priority. However, with an asking price of £130m, even a club as big as Madrid could fail to sign the England international, with Guimaraes being identified as an alternative.

The Brazilian international has been linked with a move to Madrid ever since Guimaraes set foot in England to join Newcastle, and the reigning UEFA Champions League holders could now make a move to sign the midfielder if Bellingham becomes unavailable.

Guimaraes has been impressive yet again for Newcastle this season as the Magpies made it to the League Cup final and currently sit fifth in the Premier League standings. And the former Olympique Lyonnais dynamo is seemingly on Madrid’s radar indefinitely.

Indeed, with Guimaraes one of Newcastle’s best players and a key figure for Eddie Howe’s long-term vision for the club, Newcastle could have to cough up a huge transfer fee if they decide to sign the 25-year-old in the summer, with the Magpies potentially even ruling out a move altogether.

With Newcastle one of the most exciting clubs in Europe, big things are shaping up for the Toon ahead of the transfer window, and Guimaraes could want to be part of this project, even with mounting interest from a club as big as Madrid.

Madrid’s quest to complete their midfield for the future has seemingly led them to Newcastle and Guimaraes, and although the Brazilian would be a cheaper option than Bellingham, the Magpies could be eager to shoot down any and all offers for the 25-year-old in the summer.

Whilst the lure of Madrid will be tempting for Guimaraes, there’s no real need for the South American to sign for the Spanish giants given that their end-goal is ultimately Bellingham, who could join the La Liga side in 2024 if nothing happens for the England star this summer.
