Portuguese outlet Record have reported Newcastle United have made multiple approaches to complete a transfer Tottenham Hotspur target and Sporting CP starlet Manuel Ugarte in the summer.
The Uruguayan defensive midfielder has also been a long-time Spurs target, with A Bola even claiming that the club sent scouts to watch him in action during the World Cup.
However, it seems as if Newcastle are planning to hijack the transfer in the summer, by adding Tottenham target Manuel Ugarte to their arsenal.
Newcastle made contacts to sign Tottenham target Ugarte
While Eddie Howe’s men are flying this season, sitting 3rd in the Premier League and having booked their place in the Carabao Cup final against Manchester United, they are already planning for the future to continue their ascent.

Keeping that in mind, it seems as if Newcastle have ‘made approaches’ to secure the transfer of Tottenham target Manuel Ugarte in the summer.
Furthermore, the 21-year-old’s dominant performances seem to have ‘caught the eye’ of those at St. James’ Park.
The report suggests that Sporting CP have no intention to sell Ugarte as they plan to tie him down to a long-term contract till either 2027 or 2028, whilst also increasing his wages to £628,000 per year.
While Newcastle and Tottenham target Manuel Ugarte is claimed to be ‘happy’ to stay instead of push for a transfer, he is against the idea of raising his release clause from £53.8 million to £71.8 million.
However, it has been stated that since the Portuguese club own 60% of the player, they can make a sizable profit from the deal, and would only be open to selling him if they the fee on offer banks them a major profit.
Ultimately, Newcastle United are likely to flex their financial muscle and boss Tottenham out of the way to ensure the transfer for Manuel Ugarte gets over the line, as they have the resources, the project and potentially even Champions League football to offer the player.
