Newcastle United are reportedly expected to win the race to sign Brazilian youngster Angelo Gabriel, with the likes of AC Milan set to miss out on the Santos wonderkid.
According to CalcioMercato, the Toon are in the driving seat to land the ‘excellent’ South American prospect, with Newcastle being heavily linked with Gabriel for some time heading into the January transfer window as a deal now looks close to being finalised.
As per Arena Napoli, both Napoli and FC Barcelona were also interested in Gabriel, with the 18-year-old forward regarded as one of the most exciting young players in all of Brazil. However, it now looks like Newcastle have snapped up the teenager.
The attacker, who mainly plays as a right-winger, stands to be Newcastle’s first signing of the January transfer window, with Eddie Howe likely to make more additions as the Magpies look to strengthen the squad for the second-half of the season.

However, there is a strong chance that Gabriel will be sent out on loan should Newcastle secure the forward’s signature in the coming weeks, with the teenager simply not ready yet to take on the weight of being a regular in the Premier League.
That’s not to say this deal will be a waste for Newcastle, though. And given the growing Brazilian contingent at the club, adding a wonderkid in Gabriel is a good move in the right direction for the Magpies, who might have just signed a potential superstar for the future.
Angelo Gabriel signing could work out in a big way for Newcastle

Newcastle are yet to go really crazy in the transfer market for young players with huge potential, yet Gabriel could change all of that if the Magpies can lure the Santos talent to the northeast this month, and a deal could work out massively for the Toon in the years to come.
After all, Gabriel is a talent many are predicting to become a full international for Brazil, and Newcastle signing the winger’s services ahead of the likes of Milan and Barcelona would be quite the coup from Howe, who could nurture the youngster into a frightening weapon in the Premier League.
