Jesse Marsch’s Leeds United and Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United will have to pay £15 million for Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz in the January transfer window, according to The Sun.

Newcastle and Leeds stance on Ben Brereton Diaz

The report in the British tabloid has claimed that Leeds, Newcastle, Everton and West Ham all want to sign Diaz from Blackburn this month.

The Chile international striker is out of contract at Rovers at the end of the season.

However, Blackburn still want £15 million in transfer fees for the 23-year-old striker.

And, according to The Sun, Newcastle, Everton, West Ham and Leeds are not prepared to pay that sum.

Sensible

In our view, it is sensible of Newcastle United and Leeds United not to pay £15 million for Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz in the January transfer window.

Yes, the 23-year-old is a very good striker, but he will become a free agent next summer.

So, Newcastle or Leeds could snap him up without paying a transfer fee in a few months’ time.

Moreover, spending £15 million in transfer fees on a 23-year-old playing in the second tier of English football does sound a bit too much.

There is no guaranted that the youngster will be able to hit the ground running, and that is what clubs such as Newcastle and Leeds want from their January signings.

The 23-year-old has scored nine goals and given four assists in 26 Championship matches so far this season.

The Chilean striker, described as “outstanding” by former Nottingham Forest manager Mark Warburton on the Reds’ official website in April 2017, scored 22 goals and gave three assists in 34 Championship starts for Blackburn last season.
