Journalist Ciro Venerato has told 1 Station Radio (via TuttoJuve) that despite Newcastle United holding a conference call with Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic himself, the possibility of the transfer coming to fruition is still uncertain.
Only recently, it was reported by Giovanni Albanese that the Serbian international had rejected a new deal, despite being in the final year of his contract.
With Tuttomercatoweb also claiming that Eddie Howe’s men had planned to launch a £72 million bid to sign the 27-year-old, it seems as if the club have taken an addition step to convince him to join the club.
After all, holding a conference call directly with Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is a sign of just how much Newcastle United aim to sign him.
This season, the Lazio talisman has arguably been the best midfielder in Serie A.
With 3 goals and 8 assists in the league, the powerhouse of a central midfielder has been in incredible touch.
It seems as Milinkovic-Savic himself has always tipped himself for greatness, once likening himself more to Yaya Toure than Zinedine Zidane (via GOAL) in 2018.
“The comparison [to Zinedine Zidane] can only flatter me. But I see myself more as a Yaya Toure.”
Now, it seems the Magpies are hell-bent on signing a top player himself who considers himself in the mould of one of the best midfielders of the modern era.
Newcastle hold conference call with Sergej-Milinkovic Savic himself, yet move still in doubt

Journalist Ciro Venerato has informed 1 Stadio Radio (via TuttoJuve) that Newcastle United held a conference call directly with Sergej-Milinkovic Savic.
Furthermore, it was claimed that the Magpies were willing to increase his annual salary from the current £6.1 million to £8.7 million, while signing him for £52 million.
However, the player could still reject a transfer, as is waiting for even bigger clubs to sign him.
Ultimately, Newcastle will hope that their conference call alongside other promises were enough to convince Milinkovic-Savic to sign for them.
