Newcastle United reportedly like the profile of Nottingham Forest attacker Brennan Johnson, with the Magpies keen to make a forward signing in the summer window.

According to the Athletic, the Toon are assessing their options ahead of the transfer market re-opening in the coming months, with Johnson a player who could be targeted by Eddie Howe’s side as Newcastle look to sign a quality attacker who fits their long-term profile.

As per the report, Newcastle are keen to add players under the age of 25 and who have the potential to flourish in both the Premier League and in Europe, with Johnson a player who is seemingly well-liked at St. James Park after an impressive debut year in the English top-flight.

Hailed as ‘outstanding’ by Martin Keown, Johnson has been one of Forest’s best players this season under Steve Cooper, with the Welsh international bagging nine goals and two assists in all competitions for the City Ground side, and a big move could now be on the cards.

Indeed, at 21-years-old, Johnson has been one of the best young players in the division this season, and at a club like Newcastle, the versatile attacker could be a sensational addition for Howe’s squad, especially if the Magpies qualify for Europe.

With squad depth needed, Johnson has the potential to take his career to the next step at Newcastle, and with the Toon liking his profile, a move could be on the table if the northeast side can match Forest’s demands for their star attacker, which could easily be double the reported £20m the winger was worth last year.

Making the leap from the Championship to the Premier League is one of the hardest in all of football, yet Johnson has managed to do just that and then some, with the forward guiding Forest’s bid for safety with flying colours. And for Newcastle, the forward could be an exception signing.

Still only 21 and growing more into a top player with each passing game, Johnson ticks a lot of boxes for what Howe wants in a forward signing this summer, and the attacker himself could be keen on a move to Newcastle given their potential European prospects.
