Newcastle United are reportedly set to make an €82m (£72m) bid to sign Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, with the Serbian international tipped to leave Italy this January.
According to Il Messaggero via TuttoMercatoWeb, the Magpies are ready to make a club-record offer to sign the 27-year-old superstar, with the proposal set to be made up of €60m (£52m) upfront followed by €22m (£20m) in add-ons, though there is an expectation that the bid could be rejected.
Milinkovic-Savic has been linked with a move to the Premier League for what feels like since the dawn of time, yet 2023 is shaping up to be the year the Serie A superstar actually makes the move to England, with the midfielder’s contract set to expire in 2024.
Regarded by many as one of the midfielders in world football and a player who has been likened to Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne as per Fabrizio Romano, Milinkovic-Savic would be arguably one of the biggest statement signings Newcastle could make in the current market.

A complete midfielder who this season has scored five goals and registered seven assists in all competitions, Newcastle’s form this season and their exciting future could tempt Milinkovic-Savic to make the surprising switch to St. James Park this year.
Indeed, Milinkovic-Savic might be capable of starring for the biggest and best teams in Europe, yet the midfielder moving to Newcastle would feel like a statement move for both the club and the player, with the 27-year-old arguably at the peak of his powers this season.
Newcastle can shock the world by signing Milinkovic-Savic this January

On course for the League Cup and in the Premier League top-four, this season has been nothing short of sensational for Newcastle this campaign, and signing Milinkovic-Savic this month would be a move that could shock the entire footballing world and send a clear message to those in the Premier League.
As we know, Newcastle have been very smart with their finances during the PIF regime, yet going big on a world-class player like Milinkovic-Savic would be one heck of a statement from the Toon, with the midfielder also someone who will bring a lot of value and quality to the Magpies squad.
