Newcastle United have expressed an interest in signing Hertha Berlin defender Jordan Torunarigha ahead of next week’s transfer deadline.
That’s according to Sport1, who claim that Newcastle have made their first move by asking about a potential deal.
Torunarigha is thought to be unhappy at Hertha and wants a move before the deadline in order to prove his ability away from Hertha.
The 24-year-old has spent 15 years in the German capital but finds himself on the fringes of the starting XI under Pal Dardai.
Torunarigha has two years left on his contract, meaning this could be the perfect time to sell, though Hertha are open to a loan deal too.
A tall defender at 6ft 3in tall, Torunarigha has impressive pace and can play out from the back, offering balance as a left-footed defender.

With Ciaran Clark’s future at Newcastle unclear, Torunarigha could provide that balance for Steve Bruce whilst still having untapped potential.
Compared to Jerome Boateng by Dardai and even Torunarigha himself, the defender is an interesting target for Newcastle and could be a diamond in the rough – but time is running out to get a deal done.
