Newcastle United have now learned the price that Leicester City will demand to sell James Maddison in the summer transfer window. He is also a firm target for Tottenham Hotspur.

That is according to The Telegraph, which reports a raft of Premier League teams are likely to target Maddison’s transfer. Tottenham are certainly set to test the waters to sign the 26-year-old in the off-season. But Leicester will want bids starting at £60m to consider selling.

Financial Fair Play concerns could force King Power Stadium chiefs to sell some of their top players. The East Midlands outfit have announced record losses of £92.5m for the financial year ending May 2022. Yet an exodus of high earners will help their major planned rebuild.

Tottenham Hotspur will target a summer transfer for James Maddison

Leicester plan to renew their squad with Youri Tielemans, Caglar Soyuncu and Ayoze Perez among their players out of contract in June. Maddison could also leave if any club matches the Foxes’ minimum £60m price tag. He is only under contract at Leicester until June 2024.

Tottenham are paying close attention to Maddison’s situation with Leicester in view of his transfer this summer. The one-cap England international has been in excellent form so far this season. He has hit nine goals and five assists through 18 Premier League appearances.

Newcastle United are confident about striking a deal with Leicester City

But 90min reports that Newcastle are confident of their chances of signing Maddison from Leicester in a summer transfer. Eddie Howe is determined to revamp his attacking options. The Toon manager also views the Foxes playmaker to be the Magpies’ absolute top target.

St James’ Park chiefs have held a long-term appreciation for what Maddison could offer on Tyneside. The Guardian reported last summer that Newcastle made Leicester two bids that reached £50m. But the Foxes set the Magpies a £60m asking price to fend off their pursuit.

Recent reports by The Telegraph also claim Leicester have moved to fend off Newcastle’s ongoing interest in his transfer. The Foxes have intensified talks with Maddison about his new contract. Yet even with his terms ending in 2024, Leicester still demand at least £60m.

Newcastle targeted Maddison’s transfer from Leicester in 2022 after he ended the Premier League season with 12 goals and eight assists in 35 games. His continually strong creativity under Rodgers this term has also seen Gary Lineker laud him for an ‘extraordinary’ output.
