Newcastle United believe Chelsea ace Christian Pulisic can be an ‘intriguing’ option for the summer transfer window. But the America winger’s wage at Stamford Bridge is a problem.
That is according to Dean Jones, who reports that Newcastle are tracking Pulisic’s situation at Chelsea for a potential transfer. Eddie Howe appreciates what the 24-year-old could add to his team at St James’ Park. Yet Toon chiefs are mindful of breaking their salary structure.
Newcastle are eager to be cautious in moving away from their existing plans for wages and transfer fees. So, any swoop for Pulisic may hinge on the forward’s willingness to discuss a lower wage than he currently earns. Chelsea gave him a £150k-a-week deal to join in 2019.

Pulisic has never extended his contract since joining from Borussia Dortmund for £58m. He now only has one year remaining on his terms, though. So, Stamford Bridge chiefs will have to decide whether to cash in or not this summer. But a departure could become very likely.
Graham Potter has only started the winger during seven of his 14 games over a possible 17 games so far. The Blues boss further only saw Pulisic score one and assist two goals across all competitions since taking charge. He has also been out with a knee injury since January.

Newcastle have explored a transfer from Chelsea for Pulisic for the past year
Reports by 90min have also linked Newcastle with a continued interest in Pulisic’s transfer from Chelsea for the summer market. Howe is eager to sign at least two wingers in the off-season to uphold their momentum. But he is just one of the names on the Toon’s shortlist.
Pulisic was among the forwards that Howe considered singing for Newcastle in the January transfer window, though. The Mirror reported that the Magpies weighed up making an offer under Chelsea’s £40m price tag. While The Telegraph also cited him as a target last August.
