According to The Daily Mail, Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are interested in signing Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves, a player Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal reportedly want to bring to the Emirates Stadium in the summer of 2023.

The report has claimed that Newcastle are looking for a holding midfielder in the January transfer window, and that Wolves and Portugal international star Neves is on their radar.

The Magpies are reportedly monitoring the situation of the 25-year-old midfielder.

Newcastle’s interest in signing Neves in January will come as a blow for Premier League rivals Arsenal, who have also been linked with the Wolves star, described as “a top, top player” and “sensational” by former Manchester United star Gary Neville on Sky Sports Premier League (7:29pm, March 18, 2022).

According to Sport, Arsenal are keen on signing the Portugal international midfielder in the summer of 2023 and are ready to compete with Barcelona for his signature.

However, it seems that Newcastle want to bring Neves to St. James’ Park in the January transfer window.

Could a January transfer happen?

In our view, Wolverhampton Wanderers are unlikely to sell Ruben Neves in the January transfer window.

Wolves are in danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season, and we do not think that they will sell one of their best players in the middle of the campaign.

Moreover, Neves himself would not want to move to Newcastle in the middle of the season.

After all, if he waits until the summer of 2023, then he will have the options of Arsenal and Barcelona as well.
