Newcastle United forward Allan Saint-Maximin has asked the St James’ Park club for a new contract. But manager Eddie Howe will listen to all transfer offers this summer.

That is according to TEAMtalk, which reports that Saint-Maximin has instructed his agent to speak with Newcastle about a new contract. The 26-year-old is keen to extend his deal with the winger’s existing terms expiring in 2026. He last signed a new contract in October 2020.

Newcastle awarded Saint-Maximin a bumper pay rise to better reflect his status at the club under Steve Bruce. The Toon gave the Frenchman a £93k-a-week contract as one of their most influential players. But the winger is also now asking the Magpies for a bigger salary.

Newcastle have set their stance on a new contract for Allan Saint-Maximin

Yet Saint-Maximin is no longer the talisman on Tyneside the attacker once was under Bruce with Howe at the helm. So, Newcastle do not feel the forward warrants a new contract and Howe will, instead, listen to offers in the summer while he plots transfers for new attackers.

The Magpies manager wants to sign fresh options for his frontline and is willing to sacrifice Saint-Maximin to make room. Clubs from the Middle East showed interest in the Chatenay-Malabry native in January. They could also return in the summer to offer a lucrative escape.

Eddie Howe has decided to sanction the transfer of Allan Saint-Maximin

Howe has decided to sanction the transfer of Saint-Maximin having only started the winger in 11 of Newcastle’s 29 Premier League games this season. The former France youth talent has also only scored once back in August. He has laid on five assists in 20 games in total.

Saint-Maximin was the talisman on Tyneside during Bruce’s tenure after joining from OGC Nice in August 2019 for £16.5m, rising to £20m. Frank Lampard even dubbed the dynamo as ‘unplayable’ in February 2022. But Joelinton has proven Howe can cope without him.
