Graeme Souness has spoken about Allan Saint-Maximin’s possible exit at Newcastle United and how he ‘likes’ his rumoured replacement, Harvey Barnes.

The legendary midfielder added that Sandro Tonali, who arrived from AC Milan this summer, is a ‘really good player’ and he heard that he faired well on his unofficial debut against Rangers, as he told talkSPORT.

Whilst Newcastle United have the richest owners in the Premier League, it doesn’t exactly mean that they can buy who they want and that’s proven by them having to sell Allan Saint-Maximin in order to bring in Harvey Barnes.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano dropped the news on Thursday and delivered his trademark ‘Here We Go’ to Barnes closing in on a move to St James’ Park from Leicester City.

When the Englishman joins, he will be the club’s second signing of the summer, alongside Tonali, with Saint-Maximin heading the other way and moving to Saudi Arabia.

Former Magpies manager Souness shared his thoughts on these three deals, as he gave his seal of approval to the business being done by Eddie Howe and Co.

“I see Saint-Maximin, I think they are going to sell him,” said Souness. “The boy Barnes coming in from Leicester. I like him. That would be an addition.

“Tonali, he, by all accounts, had a very good game at Ibrox. I have seen him in Serie A. He looks like a really good player.”

Barnes is better in the final third than Saint-Maximin

Whilst the French star is better on the eye than the Englishman, the latter is better because he is more efficient, a better team player and better in the final third.

Barnes will play the Miguel Almiron role, but from the left flank and provide more goals to the team.

During Saint-Maximin’s time in the Premier League, he has only managed 12 goals from his 111 matches, Barnes scored 13 for a relegated Leicester side alone last season. That says it all.
