Fabrizio Romano has said Atalanta could now sell reported Newcastle United target Merih Demiral, with many clubs keeping tabs on the Turkish international.
Taking to Twitter, the Italian transfer guru reported that interest is mounting in the Serie A centre-back, with Demiral a regular for Atalanta this season with the Bergamo-based club firmly in the race for a UEFA Champions League finish in the division.

As a result, Demiral is now a target for some top European clubs, with CalcioMercatoWeb reporting that the 24-year-old centre-back is wanted by Newcastle, who is valued by Atalanta at £26m amid interest from the Premier League and beyond.
With Atalanta now open to selling Demiral this year, there could be a chance for Newcastle to move in for the Turkish international. However, given how good the Magpies’ defence has been this season, making any changes could be viewed by Eddie Howe and supporters as an unnecessary move.
Newcastle have been the best defensive team in the Premier League this campaign with 11 goals conceded in 19 matches. And whilst Demiral would be a quality signing, the Toon are in need of recruitments in other positions if they’re to reach that next level.
Newcastle should focus on other targets even if Atalanta sell Demiral

Demiral has established himself in the last 18 months as one of the best defenders in Serie A. And whilst the Atalanta star would be a sensational signing for many Premier League clubs, Newcastle would be better to spend their resources on other targets in other positions.
After all, the Toon have had the best defence in the league this season. And with depth needed in positions such as central midfield and wide-attack, signing Demiral would be an odd choice for Howe’s club despite the Turkish star’s obvious qualities.
