Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are confident of beating Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur, Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United and Graham Potter’s Chelsea among other clubs to the signing of Sunderland youngster Chris Rigg in the January transfer window, according to 90min.

Newcastle lead race for Liverpool target Chris Rigg

The report published this morning has claimed that Newcastle, Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool and Everton all are interested in signing Rigg and have held talks over a potential deal for the 15-year-old.

However, it is Newcastle who are leading the race for central midfielder Rigg, descried as “really impressive” and “incredibly competitive” by Sunderland manager Tony Mowbray in 90min.

The Magpies are reportedly confident of getting a deal done for the teenager in the January transfer window.

90min have added that Rigg could make his senior Sunderland debut against Shrewsbury Town in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

Big statement

In our opinion, if Newcastle United are able to sign Chris Rigg from Sunderland ahead of the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United, then it will be a big statement.

The Magpies are a club on the up, and the England Under-16 captain choosing them over Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester United will be a massive statement.

And let us not forget that Sunderland and Newcastle are massive rivals, so Rigg picking the Magpies will be even more interestig.
