AC Milan are reportedly interested in signing Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin if they fail to land Nicolo Zaniolo, who is rumoured to be in talks to join Tottenham.
According to TuttoMercatoWeb, the reigning Italian champions have identified the Magpies superstar as an option in the market if Milan fails to sign Zaniolo, who as per the report is in discussions with the likes of Tottenham over a potential €40m (£34m) January transfer.
Saint-Maximin is regarded by many as arguably Newcastle’s best player. However, the former OGC Nice trickster has endured a difficult season that has seen the winger lose out on his starting position to Joelinton, who in recent weeks has taken up the left-sided attacking spot.
With Miguel Almiron thriving in Eddie Howe’s system as a right-winger, as well, there is a potential opening in the market for a club to sign Saint-Maximin this January, and Milan have seemingly identified the 25-year-old as a potential alternative to Zaniolo.

According to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Milan are in talks to sign the AS Roma attacker. However, with so many clubs interested in the Italian international, there is a chance that the 23-year-old could reject a move to the San Siro in favour of a Premier League transfer.
Indeed, Saint-Maximin signing for Milan could be a realistic possibility this January should Tottenham win the race for Zaniolo. And for the Newcastle winger himself, a move to Italy could be a great move for his career given that the Magpies are seemingly moving on without the forward.
Saint-Maximin would be smart to sign for Milan this January

Not many would have predicted Saint-Maximin to lose his spot in the Newcastle XI given how electric the winger has been for the Toon over the years. However, with Howe settling on a system that has fired the Magpies into the top-four, the French winger could benefit from a move, with Milan perfect for the attacker.
As we know, the Rossoneri are on the hunt for a wide-attacker this January, and if Milan fail to sign Zaniolo, Saint-Maximin could be the perfect alternative given how dangerous the forward has been in recent years for Newcastle in the Premier League.
