AC Milan are reportedly interested in signing Newcastle United star Allan Saint-Maximin should Rafael Leao leave the club this summer, with Chelsea one of the sides chasing the winger.
According to TuttoMercatoWeb, the Rossoneri are ‘seriously considering’ a move for the Premier League talisman if Milan’s superstar attacker is sold in the upcoming transfer window, something that could happen amid recent reports the £130m-rated is likely to leave the San Siro.
CalcioMercato have reported that Chelsea could once again spend big on a forward this summer and Leao could be the name Todd Boehly and his team push to sign, which could give Milan the funds to pursue a deal of their own to recruit Saint-Maximin from Newcastle.
Whilst the winger is a fan favourite at St. James Park and an exceptional attacker on his day, there’s a growing feeling around the Magpies that Saint-Maximin is not as valuable an asset as he previously was, and the winger being sold on is not entirely out of the question.

Indeed, with Milan set for a huge payday if Leao is sold, the Rossoneri will find it hard to find as reasonable a replacement for the Portuguese international as Saint-Maximin, with the attacker himself likely keen on a move to the Italian giants in the summer.
With Newcastle also set to spend heavily in the summer, selling Saint-Maximin could be a wise way to balance out the books with Milan now keen on the Frenchman, who could make way for Eddie Howe’s side to evolve into the next stage ahead of a huge season for the club.
Milan signing Saint-Maximin could be important for Newcastle

Saint-Maximin has played a key role for Newcastle in their recent history, with the forward proving the fanbase a light when it felt there was only darkness, yet if the club are to take the next step into becoming the powerhouses many expect them to be under the PIF regime, selling the winger could be an important step.
Excellent on his day but not consistent enough to be a top performer, Milan signing Saint-Maximin could open the door for Newcastle to upgrade their attack to something quite exciting, especially with Alexander Isak yet to hit even an inch of his true quality in Toon colours.
