Newcastle United have followed Tottenham Hotspur and Wolves in approaching Juventus to discuss a Premier League return for Aaron Ramsey this summer, according to Goal.

The Toon have opened talks Bianconeri to discuss the Welshman’s situation as Steve Bruce steps up his pursuit of the former Arsenal playmaker. Ramsey faces an uncertain future at the Allianz Stadium, but would have several landing spots back in England.

Newcastle have thrown their hat into the mix, having sought information from Juventus on the likelihood of Ramsey leaving Turin. Negotiations have so far stayed on a very informal level and no offer has been put to the Old Lady.

Goal claim Juventus do not have to sell Ramsey but note the Newcastle target has suffered with regular injuries since leaving Arsenal in 2019. He is also under contract until 2024 on a whopping £400,000-per-week deal signed as a free agent two summers ago.

But Newcastle may not need to worry about Ramsey’s Juventus wage. Calciomercato noted in June that the 30-year-old was willing to take a pay cut to re-join Arsenal after rejecting a move to Crystal Palace.

A London return remains possible, though, as Sport claimed last week that Tottenham have approached Juventus for Ramsey. Wolves also want the 67-cap maestro who played a key role in Wales reaching the Last 16 at Euro 2020.

And while Goal claim Juventus do not have to sell Ramsey, Sport add Massimiliano Allegri wants to cash in to fund a move to bring Barcelona midfielder Miralem Pjanic back to Turin. Tutto Juve also claimed in May that while Juventus want €20m (£17m) for Ramsey, they could make him available for just €12m (£10m) in order to get his salary off the books.

Should Newcastle step up interest in Juventus midfielder Ramsey?

Ramsey has suffered more than his fair share of injuries since leaving Arsenal for Juventus, but Newcastle should overlook that. He showed at Euro 2020 what he can still achieve when given a frequent run of minutes. He also rarely had a settled role in Turin last term.

Ramsey was particularly majestic in pulling the strings against Turkey as he rose to the big occasion. He made Robert Page’s team tick and deserved more than just his opening goal that oozed class, composure and intelligence.

Newcastle could land themselves a bargain by signing Ramsey from Juventus for £10m, as well. His intelligence has never come into question since leaving Arsenal as a three-time FA Cup-winning hero. He knows what areas of the pitch to exploit, and where to be to cause damage. As Andrea Pirlo even noted during his only year in charge of the Old Lady.

“When he’s in good shape, Aaron is a very important player,” Pirlo said, via The Sun in January. “He’s intelligent, he knows which positions to find on the pitch. Unfortunately, he had so many problems in recent years that he needs a lot of rest between games.”
