AFC Bournemouth striker Josh King has told Norwegian outlet VG in no uncertain terms that he is “unhappy” at the Vitality Stadium and stated that he is considering his future, with Newcastle United reportedly keen.

King, 26, has failed to hit the heights of his excellent 2016-17 campaign, scoring just eight goals all season compared to his previous tally of 16 goals in 36 league games.

Indeed, Norway international King is frustrated with being given a different position in the side by Eddie Howe. Last term, he was used as a centre-forward, but this season he has been used out wide and even in the number 10 role.

The Sun claim Newcastle are consider a move for the striker who is believed to be rated at £20million, and he could have delivered Rafa Benitez’s side a boost by stating that he is unhappy with the Cherries under Howe.

“I’m 110 percent unhappy with being relocated [position change],” King said. “I’m not happy and that’s what my coach (Eddie Howe) knows. I think most people know I’m the best.

“I have three years left of the contract and is Bournemouth player now, but in football you never know. I just want to play in the position I’m in. Why change something that worked so well, I do not understand and maybe it’s been a bit in my mind all season.”

As King says, his contract expires in the summer of 2021, giving Bournemouth the final say in any deal that could be completed in the coming months.

Newcastle are expected to be after a striker this summer after Islam Slimani failed to have any kind of impact at St. James’ Park, appearing just four times on loan from Leicester City.

Dwight Gayle failed to replicate last season’s form, while Joselu has been a rare failure of Rafa Benitez’s transfer dealings. After failing to sign Martin Jorgensen and Daniel Sturridge, it remains to be seen if the Toon can land King.
