Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur both made moves to sign Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic – but he rejected them.
That’s according to Tuttomercatoweb, who claim that Newcastle and Tottenham both made proposals to bring Brozovic to England.
However, Brozovic decided to turn both of them down and has made it clear that he wants to stay at Inter.
Brozovic is out of contract this summer and is able to sign a pre-contract agreement to leave. That may be how Newcastle and Tottenham wanted to sign him.
The Croatian seemingly has no interest in such a move and wants to ensure that he stays at Inter for years to come.
Inter have been trying to get this deal done all season, desperate to make sure that Brozovic doesn’t leave.
They would have likely been dreading a move from Tottenham for Brozovic given Antonio Conte’s influence in any deal.
Brozovic was a vital part of Conte’s title-winning Inter side last season, providing tireless and vital performances in front of three centre backs.
Newcastle have one quality midfielder in their ranks having signed Bruno Guimaraes from Lyon in January.

The idea of a Guimaraes and Brozovic pairing up in midfield is enough to make Newcastle fans salivate.
The 29-year-old now has nearly 300 appearances for Inter in all competitions yet somehow remains incredibly underrated outside of Milan, where Beppe Bergomi thinks Brozovic is ‘irreplaceable’.
Whether you want him to dictate from deep or go and hassle opposition midfielders, Brozovic can do both at a high level.
That’s why Newcastle and Tottenham want him in the first place, and they may have offered lucrative deals.
Brozovic clearly loves Inter though, and it looks like Newcastle and Tottenham will have to shelve any plans to bring the Croatian ace to the Premier League.
