Julien Laurens has backed Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United to add to their midfield again after signing Sandro Tonali as he suggested Liverpool transfer target, Khephren Thuram.
The European football expert claimed that Khephren Thuram is a player that Newcastle United ‘like a lot’ and how with the addition of Sandro Tonali from AC Milan, Eddie Howe has already ‘upgraded’ his midfield, as he told ESPN.
Whilst the Magpies prepare for their next move in the transfer market, Liverpool are also boosting their midfield, with suggestions that they are trying to push hard to beat the Magpies to Thuram’s signature.
A box-to-box player that has more attacking intent than defensive qualities, either St James’ Park or Anfield would be a very solid destination for the Nice midfielder.
Given that Thuram is playing in Ligue 1 and for a middle-of-the-road French club, then you would think it’s only a matter of time before he heads for the exit door.
And whilst Newcastle’s midfield has just gone to another level, French football expert Laurens thinks it can still get even better before the summer transfer window slams shut.

“Without a doubt (Newcastle could sign more players),” said Laurens. “We could see more midfield players. We explained at the end of the season how well they did and how well they were building this squad and this team.
“The spine of the club as well, from the ownership to Dan Ashworth and Eddie Howe. We also highlighted positions where they can upgrade players. Longstaff is really good. He is from there. This is his club. No problem. Joelinton as well.
“But Tonali is a step up. Tonali is a Bruno Guimaraes level. And that already takes you to another level. It’s a lot of money, but Tonali is a fantastic player.
“Maybe strengthen your midfielders with other players. I mentioned Khephren Thuram. I know they like him a lot. I don’t know if it’s enough to spend the 50 million Euros on him. But this is the idea. They will add two, three maybe to make the squad more competitive and loaded in quantity.”

Thuram would fare well at Newcastle and Liverpool
Yes, one can offer Champions League football, but if Thuram joined either club, he would be getting a very good footballing education.
At 22, he is still in the early stages of his career and working for coaches like Howe and Klopp would allow him to take those forward steps.
He suits both systems and would also get a healthy amount of minutes for either team, so this might just come down to the transfer fee or personal preference.
