Newcastle United have been tipped to make a move to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur.

The 29-year-old hitman is coming into the final 18 months of his contract at Spurs.

Newcastle are a club clearly on the rise, with Eddie Howe’s side sitting third in the Premier League standings and only one point behind second-placed Manchester City.

The Magpies signed Alexander Isak in a club-record deal last summer but Stan Collymore believes another number nine, in the form of the Tottenham attacker, could be on the cards next summer.

There is uncertainty over the manager situation in North London, with Antonio Conte also on a short contract.

And Collymore believes that same uncertainty could provoke Newcastle into making a shock move for the England international.

He told Caught Offside: “Talking of Newcastle and Spurs – Harry Kane has 18 months left on his deal and if things don’t go well for the Lilywhites this season, he’s going to look like a very attractive option to a lot of clubs – one of those being Eddie Howe’s Magpies.

“I wouldn’t be surprised to see Newcastle try for him in a few months’ time, especially if they’re still flying high and challenging for a spot in Europe themselves. I think he gets on very well with Alan Shearer too, so there’s a good foundation there already.”

At 29, Kane is going to slow down over the coming years but he remains absolutely lethal.

Last night, he scored twice in helping Conte’s side hammer Crystal Palace 4-0 at Selhurst Park, with all four goals coming in the second half.

Tottenham fans – and owners – would be devastated to lose him.

But although Newcastle are an outfit on the rise, signing someone of Kane’s profile still might be a bridge too far.
