Newcastle United want Timo Werner but are looking for Chelsea to pay the majority of his wages in order to make ad deal happen.

The Magpies are finding the market a little tricky when it comes to snapping up a new striker.

Names like Alexander Isak and Dominic Calvert-Lewin appear to be too expensive whilst Hugo Ekitike has moved on to Paris Saint-Germain instead.

Newcastle may have money thanks to PIF’s investment, but this comes down to value for money.

No deal has suited what Newcastle want so far, and the Magpies could now seek a favour from Chelsea.

Newcastle United want Timo Werner

Chelsea striker Timo Werner is a name being mentioned after German journalist Christian Falk reported Newcastle’s interest.

The Telegraph now claim that Newcastle are indeed ‘keeping a close eye’ on Werner’s situation at Chelsea.

Werner’s future is up in the air even after Romelu Lukaku’s Chelsea exit, with the Blues potentially looking to offload him.

It’s stated that Newcastle want Werner on loan and are hoping that Chelsea will pay most of his wages to make a deal happen.

Werner earns around £14million-a-year – in the region of £270,000-a-week – at Chelsea, meaning his full wages don’t really fit into Newcastle’s approach.

It’s wishful thinking to imagine that Chelsea will pay most of those wages to facilitate an exit, especially to a Premier League rival.

Werner, 26, was seen as a major signing for Chelsea when he joined from RB Leipzig in 2020.

95 goals in 159 games for Germany had made Werner one of the top strikers in Europe and his blistering pace caused major problems in the Bundesliga.

Yet with just 23 goals in 89 outings for Chelsea, Werner hasn’t replicated that form and has become something of a comedic figure for his amount of offside goals or shots against the woodwork.

There is clearly a player in Werner and Newcastle agree with that verdict, but convincing Chelsea into a loan deal without contributing major money seems like a long shot.
