The Newcastle United youngster looks to have a bright future in the game.
Last season, Newcastle United teenager Lewis McNall excelled at under-18 level, with one run of nine goals in nine appearances proving just how deadly he can be in front of goal.
At just 16, he earned a call-up to Newcastle’s under-23 side and he soon found his feet, scoring in back-to-back matches against Derby County and West Bromwich Albion.
It would be foolish to expect too much too soon, but McNall has continued his impressive form this season, scoring braces in consecutive FA Youth Cup matches against Sunderland and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.
Unfortunately for Newcastle’s next generations, they suffered a 5-3 defeat to Spurs at the end of last month to end their participation in the cup. However McNall continued to prove his ability in front of goal and it will be interesting to see how he develops in the years ahead.
Still only 17, it may be wise to keep him at the club for a while longer before sending him out on loan in his late teens to get some vital first-team experience.
Next year he will have another crack at the Youth Cup but given his progress he may soon outgrow that competition and have half an eye on Newcastle senior side.
