Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce is aware that he could be the first man to go once the club’s takeover is completed.
That’s according to The Mirror, who report that Newcastle’s Saudi takeover is now on the verge of being agreed.
Major hurdles were cleared on Wednesday, and the Premier League are now finally expected to sanction the £300million takeover.
The Public Investment Fund (PIF) have been chasing a Newcastle takeover for 18 months now and finally appear to have got their wish.
This new report states that PIF will invest £250million in new signings – and that manager Bruce expects to be given the sack.
Bruce allegedly didn’t even expect to return post-lockdown in 2020, when the Newcastle takeover rumours first started.
With no deal done, Bruce kept his job.
Yet with no win in the Premier League this season, Bruce knows that the new regime may want their own man in place.
Sky Sports reported in 2020 that the Saudi Arabian group wanted Mauricio Pochettino as Newcastle boss.
Pochettino now managers Paris Saint-Germain, so it seems unlikely that he will head to Newcastle now.
That’s the calibre of coach Newcastle will target though, and Bruce seemingly knows that his days could be numbered once the takeover goes through.
