Michael Owen has taken to Twitter to give his reaction to Newcastle United being taken over by the Public Investment Fund (PIF).

As announced on Newcastle’s official website today, an investment group led by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), and also comprising PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media, has competed the takeover of Newcastle.

This means that Mike Ashley is leaving the Magpies.

For good.

Former Newcastle striker Owen has taken to Twitter to give his reaction to the takeover finally happening.

As Owen notes, this is indeed great news for Newcastle fans.

Newcastle have suffered relegation from the Premier League twice under Ashley.

Yes, the Magpies have come back up, but the St. James’ Park faithful want more than just staying in the Premier League.

Newcastle fans want the team to succeed, to try to win things, to excite and to entertain.

The Newcastle supporters want their team to give them joy on the pitch and show ambition.

That is really not much to ask, is it?

That did not happen under Ashley, but perhaps under PIF, things will change.

It is a new era for Newcastle.
