Newcastle United are finally out of Mike Ashley’s hands after the club confirmed a takeover this evening – and Alan Shearer is jubilant.

The Magpies have tonight announced that their long-awaited takeover is finally done.

The Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund alongside PCP Partners and RB Sports & Media have taken over Newcastle with immediate effect.

Mike Ashley is finally on his way out of the club and Newcastle have a bright new era to get excited about.

We could now see big money spend and big players at arrive at St James’ Park, a far cry from the bargain basement Steve Bruce has been operating in.

Whether or not Bruce keeps his job remains to be seen, but Newcastle fans will have dreams of matching Manchester City now.

Some still aren’t completely on board with the Saudi Arabian input, but the general feeling is one of excitement.

‘Yesssssssss,’ said Shearer. ‘We can dare to hope again’ he added, capturing how many Newcastle fans feel.

There will be plenty more news to come on this takeover, with tonight just the start for Newcastle fans.
