Newcastle United lost 3-0 at home to Watford on Saturday afternoon.
Rafael Benitez, Manager of Newcastle United
Newcastle United made it four defeats in a row on Saturday afternoon, as they were beaten 3-0 at home by Marco Silva’s Watford.
The Magpies went into Saturday’s game having lost to Burnley, Bournemouth and Manchester United, leaving Rafael Benitez in desperate need of three points against Watford.
However, Will Hughes – fresh off a goal and an assist against West Ham United last week – opened the scoring for the Hornets, latching on to Marvin Zeegelaar’s cross to score.
Andre Gray of Watford celebrates scoring against Newcastle
DeAndre Yedlin then turned in Zeegelaar’s cross for an own goal, handing Watford a 2-0 half-time lead, before Andre Gray wrapped up a 3-0 win in the second half.
With four defeats on the spin, Newcastle are really struggling right now, and having scored just once in that run, Benitez is facing problems at both ends of the pitch.
Newcastle will at least have a chance to respond when they face West Bromwich Albion in midweek, but one player had something to smile about from Saturday’s defeat.
Will Hughes of Watford and Jacob Murphy of Newcastle United
Winger Jacob Murphy, snapped up from Norwich City over the summer, started his first home Premier League game on Saturday, having previously started just two league games for the Magpies – both away from home.
Now with his first home Premier League start under his belt, Murphy has taken to Twitter to admit he was happy to start, and vowed to put things right against West Brom on Tuesday night.
