Newcastle, Stoke and West Brom are all keen on Fabian Delph, but which one should the Manchester City midfielder choose?
It is looking increasingly likely that Fabian Delph will have left Manchester City by the end of the summer transfer window, but the big question is where he will go?
The Telegraph reports that Newcastle United, Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion are all in for Delph – who is valued at around £12m by City – but which would be the best destination for the midfielder?
Manchester City’s Fabian Delph shoots wide
Newcastle
Newly promoted clubs such as the Magpies often represent the greatest risk for a prospective new signing because they are generally favourites to go straight back down, although with Rafa Benitez as manager and their history in the Premier League there is a sense that is less of a concern for Newcastle.
That said, Benitez is still rebuilding at St James’ Park and while Jonjo Shelvey and Matt Ritchie would be useful allies for Delph in midfield, there is not the same talent that has been present in the past.
Stoke
Mark Hughes continues his reform of the Potteries from top flight bully-boys into a technically gifted and aesthetically pleasing outfit, with Jon Walters the latest of the ‘old school’ brigade to leave and the Stoke Sentinel reporting Glenn Whelan is not far behind.
Delph may have a little more competition in central midfield at the Bet365 Stadium in Joe Allen and Darren Fletcher, but with the likes of Marko Arnautovic and Xherdan Shaqiri ahead of him, Hughes’ side are perhaps the most appealing.
West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis
West Brom
It is the departure of Fletcher from the Hawthorns this summer that leaves boss Tony Pulis in such dire need of support in the middle of the park.
Delph would almost certainly walk into the starting XI for the Baggies, but when looking around him the West Brom squad maybe doesn’t have the same sort of names that suits his neat passing style as say, Stoke do.
