Newcastle United continued their fine recent form as they managed to beat Derby County 2-0 at the iPro Stadium on Saturday evening.

With three consecutive wins heading into the game, Newcastle had recovered from a slow start to the campaign, and Rafael Benitez’s men made it four wins in a row.

French winger Yoann Gouffran continued his recent return to form by scoring Newcastle’s opening goal, crashing home a superb volley from Jonjo Shelvey’s deep first-half corner kick.

Summer signing DeAndre Yedlin then grabbed the second with his first goal for the club since signing from Tottenham Hotspur, as he bundled the ball home after a smart layoff from Ayoze Perez.

Now gathering real momentum, Newcastle are starting to live up to their pre-season billing as Championship title favourites, and their players celebrated the win after the final whistle.

Key Magpies stars such as Chancel Mbemba and Jamaal Lascelles both sent messages to supporters after the game, as did summer signings Jesus Gamez and Isaac Hayden.

Recent addition Achraf Lazaar – who was an unused substitute during his first appearance on the Newcastle team-sheet – also celebrated the victory on Saturday evening.
