Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar was reportedly brought up to European giants AC Milan after the Swiss star’s agent met with the Italian side.

According to Sportitalia via SempreMilan, Volker Struth was in Milan this Monday to discuss potential players the Rossoneri could sign under his representation, with Schar one of the players mentioned during the meeting.

The 30-year-old defender has flourished in 2022 since Eddie Howe’s arrival and implementation of a new system at Newcastle, with Schar becoming indispensable for the Magpies and a key part of the backline.

However, Schar’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season, and whilst rumours are floating that a new deal might be in the pipeline, Milan’s interest in the Swiss international could be legit.

Whilst the Italian side sit top of the Serie A table, plans are already being drawn up for how the Milan squad could be improved over the summer, with technical director Paolo Maldini targeting defensive and attacking signings.

Indeed, Liverpool star Divock Origi, also a free agent this summer, is on the verge of signing for Milan, and Schar could soon join the Belgian international if the European giants make a concrete move for the 30-year-old centre-back.

Milan is too big a club for Schar to reject despite Newcastle’s ambitions

Schar’s form for Newcastle in recent weeks has been nothing short of sensational, and whilst what’s happening at the club is exciting and will usher in a new era of change, there’s no denying that an offer from Milan would be too good to ignore for the defender.

After all, Milan are one of the biggest clubs in Europe and look set to win their first Serie A title in over a decade this season, and for Schar, joining the Italian side at this stage in their history could be as exciting and prosperous as staying at Newcastle for the next few seasons.
