Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes says he already knows who should win the Ballon d’Or award

Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has named the player that he believes deserves to win the Ballon D’Or.

It has been a tough season for Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes with Newcastle United’s injury problems meaning that the Geordie side missed out on European football altogether after finishing in the Champions League places in the previous season.

HITC have reported that Manchester City are ready to turn their attention to the Newcastle midfielder after ending their interest in West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta.

Guimaraes is currently away on international duty with Brazil ahead of this summer’s Copa America and the midfielder has been speaking to the media in South America.

Guimaraes names Ballon D’Or winner

Speaking to TNT Sports, the 26-year-old was asked about whether Vinicius Junior, who has had another stellar season at Real Madrid deserves the illustrious individual award.

“I believe it could be fundamental, I believe that from my point of view Vini has to be [chosen], no matter what happens,” he said.

“But I’m not the one who votes, I’m not the one who does these things, so I believe it could weigh on him. We’re going to do our best here to help Vini too because he’s a kid who deserves it a lot and for me he’s already the best in the world.”

Interestingly, the Brazilian midfielder even teased the possibility of remaining at St James’ Park and becoming the club captain, which would be a welcome boost for Geordie fans.

Vinicius’ superb year

If the Madrid winger caps off his fine individual season with the Copa America title then he would have to be in the running for the Ballon D’Or.

This season for Madrid, Vinicius scored 24 times in all competitions, including the second goal in the Champions League final win over Borussia Dortmund at Wembley, and has provided 11 assists.

It was a tough start to life for the Brazilian winger at the Santiago Bernabeu, with just eight La Liga goals in three seasons, but he has improved year on year and should be in the running for the individual award.
