The former Newcastle striker, who now works as a loan manager at the Magpies, believes that the prospective new owners of the club should give Bruce a chance.
The former Hull City boss was appointed the Newcastle manager in the summer of 2019 following the departure of Rafael Benitez.
The Magpies are unlikely to get relegated to the Championship – if and when the season resumes – and they are still in the FA Cup.
According to Sky Sports, the prospective new owners of Newcastle have identified former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino as the first choice to replace Bruce as the first-team boss once the current season ends.
Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund are on the verge of buying the Magpies from current owner Mike Ashley, according to Goal.com.
Shola Ameobi said on The Football Show on Sky Sports Football (10am, May 8, 2020): “I’m definitely a guy who doesn’t want to make a rash decision. Steve Bruce has done a great job up here given what he has been given to work with. My advice would be to stick with Bruce.
“If a new owner comes in they will want to know how the club runs. It is important that we have stability.
“For me, I would be calling for the new owners to keep Bruce for the time being – then make a change when they’ve embedded themselves.“
Sticking with Steve Bruce
Bruce is a very good manager, and he has done well with the squad at his disposal at Newcastle.
It would make sense for the prospective new owners to see what Bruce can achieve with the right investment, but one cannot ignore the obvious appeal of Pochettino.
