England defender Kieran Trippier is ready to quit Atletico Madrid and complete a transfer to Newcastle United during the upcoming January window, according to the Daily Mail.
The Magpies have been in ongoing talks with Trippier for the last month over a move to St James’ Park. Eddie Howe considers the full-back one of his top targets for the winter sales, as he bids to guide the Tyneside natives away from the Premier League relegation fight.
Trippier also played under Howe at Burnley after the former Clarets coach signed him from Manchester City. He impressed the 44-year-old in a short amount of time at Turf Moor, as well, to seal a permanent switch from the Etihad outfit midway through a season-long loan.

Newcastle are ready to back Howe’s desires to reunite with Trippier with a January transfer from Atletico Madrid. The Toon have a £150k-a-week deal on the table for the 31-year-old to sign, which would make him their top-earner.
But the Toon still need to agree a fee for the full-back with the La Liga title-holders. Atletico wanted £25m from Manchester United this summer, yet could now settle for just half that.
His £130k-a/w deal in Madrid will end next year, unless Trippier starts 20 games this term. The defender would then trigger a 12-month extension, but has only opened 12 ties so far.
Trippier open to Premier League return
Trippier joined Atletico Madrid from Tottenham in 2019 for £20m, but has long sought to return to the Premier League. He has now given Newcastle the green light to pursue a deal next month, as well, despite their perilous position.

Newcastle players are also aware Trippier is ready to join their survival pursuit in a January transfer from Atletico Madrid. The Toon visit Liverpool on Thursday night just three-points from safety, and still with just one win all season.
Trippier’s green light for a transfer from Atletico Madrid to Newcastle will now be a huge boost for Howe. And potentially below the £30m the Northern Echo note they would pay.
