Newcastle United are the only Premier League side yet to sign a player this summer, with the transfer window set to slam shut in less than a months time.
Managerless. No new players signed. Key player sold. And the club seemingly up for sale. When you think it couldn’t get any worse for Newcastle, it does.
Preparations for the new Premier League season are already underway, but Newcastle yet to show any signs of positivity ahead of the new campaign.
Whilst no new players have arrived, it hasn’t stopped rumours about certain players joining the club this summer.
The Sun on Sunday (7/7; page 61) have claimed that Newcastle are keen on the services of Norwich’s teenage goalkeeper Jon McCraken.
It is said the 19-year-old is yet to secure his future at Carrow Road and Newcastle want the youngster, who previously played for Scottish Premiership side Hamilton.
Given the current mess at St James’ Park, it wouldn’t be a surprise if an unknown player like McCraken would be their first signing of the summer, which would only rub more salt into the supporter’s wounds.
Despite the incompetent decisions by those in the boardroom at the North East club, there is nothing in the horizon that things could be on the up.
It wouldn’t be a surprise if Newcastle are one of the teams to be tipped to go down by neutral fans or pundits alike because nothing is giving the club hope.
An ambitious appointment for a manager, and a player that can lift the crowd like Miguel Almiron did in January, would be a positive start.
But it wouldn’t be a surprise if an unfancied manager and a reported target such as McCraken are the first ones to walk through the St James’ Park doors in these coming weeks.
